Introduction
- A 2D end-world resource management simulation game inspired by “Fallout Shelter,” “This War of Mine,” “Frostpunk,” and “Phasmophobia.”
- “You are the ruler of The Last Corner in this zombie apocalypse world”.
As a team of fans of End-World Simulation games, we quickly iterated through design ideas and came up with this zombie apocalypse shelter management game.
We wanted the player to enjoy the experience as a ruler, so we granted them full control over the running of the shelter - producing medication, diagnosing diseases, managing food and resources, killing zombies, and even executing their refugees.
There are many design details that we drilled into to provide a good player experience:
- a time limit and objective to deliver an engaging minute-to-minute game loop.
- well-defined refugee infection/diagnosing/curing logic to ensure a fun second-to-second gameplay.
- day/night cycle with light use to immerse the players.
- productivity as a bonus to keep players motivated to save more people.
- rule power as a metric to make players mindful of their actions.
- airdrops, hunters, stores, and food allocation to produce a fun and engaging resource-managing experience.
- random popup stories and letting players make decisions to create immersion and a sense of control.
